Adverbial Clause

BAB 1
ADVERBIAL CLAUSE


Definisi :
Adverb Clause adalah anak kalimat yang berfungsi sebagai adverb atau kata kerja.
Jenis-jenis adverb clause, diantaranya :
1. Adverbs of Time
Adalah merupakan kata keterangan waktu. Biasanya menggunakan kata penghubung after, before, while, as, until when, since,, as long as, until, now, tomorrow, yesterday, this morning, last week, next year, long, all day, for a week, never, often, several times, ago, already, soon, immediately, instantly, presently, late, aearly, today, tomorrow, anymore, just etc.

Contoh : Her father died when she was young.
While he was walking home, he saw an accident.
I am studying now.
I graduated university 2 years ago.
He’s only 12, but he already speaks three languages.
My friend used to live here, but she doesn’t live here anymore.
I just found out my test score, I got an A!

2. Adverbs of Place
Merupakan kata keterangan tempat. Biasanya menggunakan kata penghubung where, nowhere, anywhere, wherever,every where, here, there, below, out, inside, far, near,above, back, around, somewhere, at my house, in the field, where your born, in, at, on, at home, etc.

Contoh : They sat down wherever they could find empty seats
He said he was happy where he was.
She studies English here.
Tom practice football in the field.
He is at home
The book is above the table


3. Adverbs of Manner
Merupakan kata keterangan yang menunjukkan bagaimana cara dilakukan suatu pekerjaan. Biasanya menggunakan kata penghubung as, how, like, in that, the way, suddenly, slowly, hard, in a friendly manner, with a knife, quickly, softly etc.

Contoh : I was never allowed to do things the way I wanted to do them.
He did as I told him
You may finish it how you like.
She did her work quickly.
He did his work slowly.
I must study hard.
She spoke softly.



4. Adverbs of Purpose and Result
Merupakan kata keterangan yang menunjukkan maksud/tujuan suatu tindakan yang dilakukan. Biasanya menggunakan kata penghubung (in order) that, so that, in the hope that, to the end that, lest, in case, etc.
Contoh : He learned last night so that he could understand te lesson.
I study every night in the hope that I get good grades.
He worked every day in the hope that he can buy a car.
He came early so that he would not be late.
I exercise to the end that I can be healthy.




5. Adverbs of Conditions
Menunjukkan adanya persyaratan antara dua kejadian (peristiwa) yang berhubungan. Biasanya dibuat dengan menggunakan kata penghubung seperti if, even if, unless, in the even that, or in even that, in case, provided (that), providing (that), on condition that, if only, suppose (that), supposing (that),etc.
Contoh : If I understand I will teach him.
I would forgive him if only he apologized.
Suppose (that) the car he was missing , if you have enough money to replace it.
In case a robbery occurs in the hotel, the management must be notified at once.
The company will agree to arbitration on condition (that) the strike is called off at once.
We should be able to do the job for you quickly, provided (that) you give us all the necessary information.


6. Adverbs of Cause and Effect
Merupakan kata keterangan yang menunjukkan hubungan sebab akibat. Biasanya menggunakan kata penghubung because of, due to, due to the fact that, since, now, that, as, as long as, inasmuch as, therefore, consequently, etc.
Contoh : Because of the cold weather, we stayed home.
Due to the cold weather, we stayed home.
Because he was sleepy, he went to bed.
Since he's not interested in classical music, he decided not to go to the concert.
Alex didn't study. Therefore, he failed the test.
Alex didn't study. Consequently, he failed the test.
